June 2010“Count on us”
Düsseldorf / Germany, June 16, 2010 -
Ticona will be presenting new products and applications at
K 2010 in Düsseldorf under the banner "Count on us." The plastics
producer with global operations offers a broad range of specialty
polymers combined with extensive processing expertise. Together
these enable the development of innovative application-specific
solutions for a variety of industries. Strategic additions to its
portfolio make the Celanese subsidiary a competent and reliable
company, for both regionally and globally based
customers.
"Efficiency and ecology are still essential factors in the
development and implementation of innovative technologies. We use
targeted product development programs and the greatest possible
focus on customer service to help our customers implement
sustainable, highly profitable solutions," explains Roeland Polet,
General Manager of Ticona. The company, with locations in
Kelsterbach near Frankfurt am Main (Germany), Florence, Kentucky
(USA) and Shanghai (China), will be presenting the most recent
successes in a broad range of fields spanning the automotive,
aerospace, green technology, home, electronics and consumer goods
sectors. One of the highlights is the concept car from Rinspeed
known as "UC?". In this electric car designed for use in the city,
Celstran® tapes are used to reinforce the battery
carrier and the trunk, thereby providing the stability and light
weight that the drive system and the vehicle require. High-strength
lightweight structures are also found in the G650, the new business
jet from Gulfstream. In the rudder and elevator of their new plane,
the aircraft manufacturer is using welded thermoplastic primary
structural components for the first time in the history of
aviation: components based on Fortron® PPS. And together
with a Hostaform® POM grade, the polyphenylene sulfide
from Ticona is also being used in the first modular fuel cell
system. That system makes it possible to supply electrical power to
a variety of equipment in industry, research and development while
minimizing emissions. Other examples from the automotive industry
illustrate how Ticona materials are contributing to sustainability,
efficiency and safety.
Growth-oriented corporate strategy
Ticona offers the products Hostaform®,
Vectra®, GUR®, Celanex®,
Celstran®, Compel®, Impet®,
Riteflex®, Vandar® and Fortron® -
and with the acquisition of FACT in January 2010, has also added
the long-fiber-reinforced thermoplastic Factor® to its
product line. In April Ticona's parent company Celanese announced
another important decision: the construction of a new 50,000-ton
polyacetal plant together with SABIC in the Middle East.
Construction of local plants is enabling Ticona to supply and
support customers all over the world even better than ever before.
A second strategic acquisition will also make a decisive
contribution in this respect as well: the acquisition of the
Zenite® LCP liquid crystal polymer and
Thermx® PCT polycyclohexylene dimethylene terephthalate
product lines from DuPont. The primary beneficiaries here will be
companies with global operations - companies from the automotive
industry, for example, along with companies in the high-growth
electrical and electronic products segment. Leading electronics
manufacturers, governments and consumer groups throughout the world
are pressing for the development of "green electronics." That's why
more and more manufacturers with global operations are eliminating
halogenated compounds in their products and replacing them with
eco-friendlier materials. As a sector that spans many industries,
the electronics segment is playing a key role in this respect.
Technological progress often goes hand in hand with the use of
high-performance polymers here. This is creating sustainable, green
solutions.
Well-positioned for K 2010
"In the area of product and application development, our
innovative strength and collaborative, forward-looking approach
have contributed to many efficient solutions and numerous
innovations by our customers," says Polet in anticipation of K
2010. "The fundamental strategic decisions - the FACT acquisition,
the expansion of the joint venture in the Middle East and the
acquisition of the two DuPont products - have given us greater
latitude and greater expertise, of course. So we're also looking
forward to K at the end of October with a real sense of optimism."
Summing up Ticona's strengths, Polet concludes: "After all, on the
product level we've reached an excellent starting position from
which we can continue to live up to our K motto 'Count on us' -
both regionally and globally."
"Count on us" - the Ticona stand at the trade
fair
K 2010 will run from October 27 through November 3, 2010 at the
trade fair grounds in Düsseldorf. Ticona will be presenting its
know-how, products and applications at Stand A07 / B07 in Hall 06.
The stand's motto, "Count on us", will be displayed by an
eye-catching world clock located at its center 24/7. This will
serve to underscore the service- and solution-focused company's
global orientation and around-the-clock availability. Arranged on a
conveyor belt and complemented by an interactive projector, the
latest applications made of Ticona materials will be presented on
the brightly lit, extremely attractive stand.
